no demoulding time for medical injection mould

Ancillary time eliminated, cycle time shortened

New unscrewing concept: Medical injection mould live at K 2025

With an innovative unscrewing concept, the Siegfried Hofmann GmbH reduces the ancillary time typically required for thread demoulding to exactly 0.0 seconds – without the use of additional motors or programming.

This is made possible by a purely mechanical solution for simultaneous unscrewing during tool opening. The result: zero ancillary time. This results in a significantly shortened cycle time – reduced by 15% – with maximum reproducibility of the medical-grade plastic components. The new 8-cavity mould for the production of medical syringe barrels with Luer lock thread will be presented for the first time live at K 2025 in Düsseldorf at the Hofmann booth 13C10.

The serial-production tool was developed as part of a tooling package in Hofmann’s high-precision manufacturing. In line with the consistent combination of innovative tooling concepts and uncompromising precision, further optimisations have been achieved compared to the previous version – beyond the unscrewing process without ancillary time:

Drawing on decades of design expertise and methodical filling simulations, the number of gating points was reduced from two to one – all while meeting the stringent burr-free requirements typical of medical devices. In addition, Hofmann’s design engineers implemented an efficient, near-contour cooling system to further reduce the cycle time.

The multi-cavity tool impresses with long-term stable dimensional accuracy, high reproducibility across all cavities and minimised maintenance requirements. This is made possible by the systematic use of corrosion-resistant, wear-resistant tool steels, combined with short-term plasma nitriding and robust DLC coating of the thread cores. This combination reliably protects critical areas and ensures consistent process stability with maximum availability. It guarantees patient safety even after a high number of shots, as product dimensional stability is permanently guaranteed. Optional spare parts packages and comprehensive post-delivery services round off the overall package.

The result is a stable, high-precision medical mould that impresses with significantly improved cycle times thanks to zero ancillary time and refined design features.

Visitors of the K trade can experience this high-speed multi-cavity tool live in action on a fully electric injection moulding machine at stand 13C10. They can also look forward to gaining insights into technical innovations in the fields of polyurethane, smart films, hybrid tool technologies and particle foam.
