The customer

Vorwerk & Co. KG was founded in Wuppertal in 1883 and is an international corporate group that has remained a family business to this day. Vorwerk’s Thermomix® is a powerful food processor that combines twelve different functions.

The task

The Thermomix® TM5 was introduced all around the world simultaneously, which further increased the demands on the tool, especially with regard to production reliability and volumes. The design cover is also a visually distinctive component that places the highest demands on processing. The task for Hofmann was to produce a 3K series tool that would guarantee volumes in the millions and at the same time meet the special quality requirements of the Thermomix® TM5 panel surface.

The solution

In order to achieve the best possible result, we relied on very close cooperation between ourselves and the customer during product development. A test tool was also specially built to test the manufacture of the components. With Hofmann Impulsgeber’s know-how, the exact colour separation required by the customer on the design panel was achieved. In addition, the experts found a way to overmould the crystal-clear and complex-to-process PMMA as a top layer. This succeeded, among other things, thanks to a clever distribution of the gate points, which were determined through extensive simulations and verified with a test tool.

The success

The specialists at Hofmann built a 3K series tool for the Thermomix® TM5 design panel, which not only offers excellent quality, but also enables high production volumes. The knowledge and experience of Hofmann Impulsgeber also ensured that shorter cycle times were achieved than originally planned. Hofmann supplied a total of ten design panel series tools for the Thermomix® TM5.
